Alabama got its first IKEA in February 2026, when a small-format store opened on University Drive in Huntsville. It has a planning area where you can sit down with an IKEA kitchen planner, and larger orders can be shipped there for collection. IKEA also lists a pick-up point in Birmingham.
For much of the state, that still means a drive. Mobile and Baldwin County are closer to IKEA’s Pensacola pick-up point in Florida than to Huntsville, and east Alabama towns such as Auburn and Anniston can reach IKEA Atlanta. The Memphis store, once an option for the northwest corner, closed in May 2026.
Custom doors for IKEA kitchens don’t depend on any of that. You can plan the cabinets online or in Huntsville, then choose a refacer in Birmingham, Montgomery or the Tennessee Valley who measures and installs, or a maker who ships flat-packed fronts to your door. Gulf Coast humidity is worth raising with whoever builds them: ask how solid-wood doors are sealed, including the edges and the back face.
It can. IKEA’s Huntsville page offers kitchen planning appointments covering cabinets, appliances and countertops. As a small-format store it doesn’t stock every cabinet to carry out, but orders can be shipped there for collection. Take the finished plan home and upload it to Fronts to compare prices for custom doors and panels.
IKEA’s pick-up point in Pensacola, Florida, is the closest collection spot for most of coastal Alabama, while Huntsville and Atlanta are the nearest stores. You can skip the trip altogether by ordering cabinets online for delivery and having the custom fronts shipped by the maker. A local carpenter or kitchen installer can hang them.
