Order: IKEA work confirmed first, then the most local, then by name. Nobody can pay to move up this list.
Washington, DC has no IKEA location inside the District, but several sit just over the line. IKEA College Park in Maryland and IKEA Woodbridge in Virginia are full stores, IKEA Chantilly near Dulles opened as a small store in June 2026, and there are plan and order points in Fairfax and Gaithersburg. Without a car, getting a kitchen’s worth of boxes home is the hard part, so delivery is usually the simpler route.
DC kitchens are often narrow galleys in rowhouses, condos and converted apartments, where every inch counts. Custom fronts let an IKEA cabinet layout look built in, with matching panels on exposed ends, a tall pantry door, or open shelves in the same finish. Ask makers for fillers and scribe strips, because walls in older brick rowhouses are often out of square.
Before work starts, check your installer’s credentials. The District licenses home improvement contractors through the Department of Licensing and Consumer Protection, and condo buildings often set their own rules for working hours, elevators and deliveries.
It depends on your side of town. IKEA College Park is the nearest full store to most of the District, Woodbridge lies south along I-95, and the Fairfax and Gaithersburg plan and order points suit planning appointments. Chantilly opened near Dulles in June 2026. Whichever you use, upload the saved plan to Fronts to price custom doors.
Home improvement contractors working in the District need a license from the Department of Licensing and Consumer Protection, and its website explains how to check one. Ask for the license number with the quote, get the contract in writing, and find out whether your building or HOA wants a certificate of insurance before workers arrive.
