Virginia has four IKEA locations with planning services. Full stores are in Woodbridge, in Prince William County, and Norfolk, in Hampton Roads. A small-format store opened in Chantilly in June 2026 on the former Dulles Expo Center site, and there’s a plan and order point with pick-up in Fairfax. IKEA also lists pick-up points in Leesburg and in Chester, south of Richmond.
Northern Virginia and Hampton Roads are well covered. Richmond has a pick-up point but no store, and from Charlottesville, Lynchburg, Roanoke, Blacksburg or the Shenandoah Valley the drive to a store is long. There, homeowners often plan online and buy custom doors for IKEA kitchens from a maker who ships, with a local carpenter to install.
If you’d rather have a refacer handle the whole IKEA kitchen refacing job, check their license: Virginia requires a state contractor license for most jobs over $1,000, and DPOR, the state licensing agency, has an online lookup. Older homes in Alexandria, Richmond’s Fan District or Norfolk’s Ghent may need extra filler and scribe work, so mention the age of the house when you ask for quotes on custom fronts.
Yes. IKEA opened its Chantilly store on June 18, 2026, at 4320 Chantilly Shopping Center Drive. It’s a smaller-format store with a planning area and kitchen planning appointments, and the full range can be ordered for delivery or Click & Collect. It joins Woodbridge, Norfolk and the Fairfax planning point among IKEA’s Virginia locations.
A Virginia contractor license from the Board for Contractors, administered by DPOR, for work over $1,000. The license class limits the size of job a contractor can take on, and the classification sets the type of work. Look the contractor up on DPOR’s website before signing, and keep the deposit modest rather than paying most of the price up front.
