Do Alberta's dry winters affect custom fronts?

They can. Wood takes on and gives up moisture with the seasons, so solid-wood panels can shrink slightly in a heated house in January and swell again in summer. Well-made fronts allow for that movement in how they’re built and finished. Painted MDF and laminate move less. If your home runs very dry, mention it when you ask for a quote.

I live in rural Alberta. Will anyone come out to install?

It depends on the business and the distance. Ask refacers in Calgary or Edmonton whether they cover your area and how travel is charged. If they don’t, order fronts from a maker who ships and hire a local carpenter or cabinet installer to hang them. If the hinge holes come pre-drilled for IKEA hinges, fitting is mostly a matter of clipping on and adjusting.
