Custom doors for IKEA kitchens in Los Angeles: what to know

In Los Angeles, the nearest IKEA depends on which freeway you live off. That matters when you are planning cabinets, because the boxes, hinges and inner drawers usually come from IKEA while the doors come from somebody else.

IKEA Burbank is the natural stop for the San Fernando Valley and Glendale. IKEA Carson serves the South Bay, Long Beach and San Pedro. In the San Gabriel Valley there is a full store in Covina and a smaller planning-led store in Arcadia. Orange County shoppers head to Costa Mesa. The Westside finally has its own: IKEA Culver City opened in the Helms Design District in spring 2026 and books kitchen planning appointments. Thousand Oaks and Ontario have plan and order points for the Conejo Valley and the Inland Empire.

Once the layout is settled, you can order custom fronts from independent makers. Local refacers measure in person, which helps in an older Spanish-style house where walls are rarely square. Makers further away build custom doors for IKEA kitchens from your plan and ship them flat-packed for you or your installer to hang.

If you live in one of the city’s Historic Preservation Overlay Zones, such as Highland Park or Angelino Heights, the review boards look at facades rather than kitchens. IKEA kitchen refacing happens indoors, so it is usually a matter for you and your installer, not the HPOZ board.

Questions about custom IKEA doors and fronts in Los Angeles

Is there an IKEA on the Westside for planning a kitchen?

Yes. IKEA Culver City opened in spring 2026 on Helms Avenue in the Helms Design District. It is a smaller city-center store, and IKEA’s page lists kitchen planning appointments there, covering cabinets, appliances, countertops and measuring. Larger orders can be delivered or collected. For Santa Monica and Venice it is usually much closer than Burbank or Carson.

My house is in an HPOZ. Does changing the kitchen doors need approval?

HPOZ review is aimed at the outside of the house. The LA Conservancy describes boards reviewing alterations to facades, and a kitchen door swap is interior work. Work that changes a window or exterior wall is different. If you are unsure, check the preservation plan for your district or ask City Planning before you start.

Will a refacer come out to the Valley or Long Beach?

Each maker sets its own service area, and Los Angeles is large, so ask at the start. Refacers who measure and install usually work within a set drive time of their shop. If nobody nearby suits you, a maker elsewhere can build to your IKEA plan and ship the doors flat-packed, and a local handyman can hang and adjust them.
